Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’ director says he didn’t follow anything from the comics

Movie adaptations are a big deal, especially for fans who have read them (sometimes repeatedly) even before they are turned into movies. The general audience would always have polar takes on movie adaptations, but for most fans, accuracy is the key. This year, Warner Bros. will break new ground with Todd Phillips’ Joker. The upcoming movie will give its title character an origin story, a rare perspective on the Clown Prince of Crime. The Joker is widely known for his anarchy and lack of logical motivation, although Philips recently revealed that his story isn’t actually taking much from the comics. As he put it:

We didn’t follow anything from the comic books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.

However, all will be revealed when Joker arrives in theaters on October 4, 2019. Surely, discussion will definitely stir at some point. A Joker movie that is not based on the Joker in the comics? We might need some popcorn as early now.

What are your thought about this?
